The Path that Winds
It was a winding path that led me into ministry. Long before I ever thought about becoming a pastor, I felt that I was somehow called to serve God’s world. But I didn’t know exactly what that meant. I could feel it in my soul; yet, I couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was. It was not until I began to consider ordained ministry that I started to learn how to talk about my call. For some reason, the church often seems to only talk about the call to ministry when it has to do with ordination. And that means a lot of people do not fully understand what the idea of a call to ministry means.
I think this is a shame. The truth is pastors are not the only people who are called to serve God’s world. The United Methodist Church teaches that God places a call on all of our lives. It doesn’t matter if you are a pastor or a teacher, a mechanic or a doctor, a parent or a business owner. God wants all of us to use our gifts and graces to build God’s kingdom here.
This January we are going to explore the Ministry of all Christians. We will learn about this church’s main ministries, as well as opportunities for you to serve God’s children right here in our community. We are even going to take a spiritual gifts survey to help you discover the talents and skills that you have been blessed with, so you can better serve God’s world. So, as you set off on this new year, come join us for worship while we discuss The Path that Winds, and learn about God’s call for your life.
